Description

Muted colour palettes are not usually the norm for me but the subtle tones  of the background of this landscape border between realistic and surrealistic. The foreground tree is painted in dark Prussian Blue mixed with Indigo. I’ve also used pearlescent paint over the sunrise which captures the light but you can’t see this facing the painting — only from the side. Inspired by a very eerie dream I had once but I tried to turn it into a positive image. It’s funny how the connotation of dying trees gives people a sinister feeling so I deliberately painted the tree alive and flourishing.
